Mitchell O'Neil
Architect
Mitchell O’Neil discovered his passion for design at a tender age. Encouraged by early accolades, like his published boat drawing in the Miami Herald and later in high school for recognition as best architectural draftsperson.
Graduating from the prestigious University of Miami School of Architecture, O’Neil was determined to make an indelible mark. His first landmark project came during his internship with Yeckes-Luchner Architects, designing a restaurant addition-renovation that earned the firm a statewide award for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects. World-renowned architect and jury member Cesar Pelli remarked, “Here the architect has managed to overcome the limitations of a pre-existing building to create a pleasant structure that was handled with skill and care.”
Further honing his craft, O’Neil worked alongside distinguished New York architect Alex Gorlin on his first built project. He was then privileged to work in the Florida office of Bruce Graham, senior partner with Skidmore Owings and Merrill. Mr. Graham designed the Sears Tower and Hancock Center in Chicago, among other iconic buildings worldwide.
In 1992 O’Neil established his own practice and has been honored with winning multiple awards for Excellence and Honor in Design from the American Institute of Architects, including a special Design Honor Award “for his body of work over an extended period of time, in advancing the course and public value of good architecture.”
National and regional magazines have recognized his innovative and distinctive projects. His designs have been featured on The Learning Channel (TLC) series, Dream Living and the HGTV series Top 10, among other television programs.
